People’s Legal Centre is a Cape Town based community organisation that empowers South Africans with the knowledge and resources to engage with the legal systems that affect them.

We understand that justice is slow to reach and protect the most vulnerable in our society and so we give poor and working-class people the tools they need to access justice.

Access Justice

People’s Law

People’s Law is the educational arm of the People’s Legal Centre, dedicated to empowering communities through knowledge.

It offers comprehensive paralegal training courses for those looking to support their communities in the long term, as well as targeted workshops that address specific legal needs within these communities.

The goal is to equip individuals with the tools they need to advocate for justice and navigate the legal system with confidence.

Advice Office

The Community Advice Centres are at the heart of our mission to provide accessible legal assistance.

Located directly within communities, these centers offer free legal advice from trained paralegals under the guidance of legal professionals, ensuring that individuals who cannot afford costly legal representation still have a path to justice.

By offering support where it’s needed most, we aim to break down barriers to legal access and uphold the rights of those who need it most.

Law Clinic

The People’s Law Clinic will serve as the legal arm of our organization, dedicated to providing free legal services to those in need.

Its primary goal is to pursue cases that protect constitutional rights, promote active participation in democracy, and hold the government accountable.

Although not yet operational, the People’s Law Clinic is a future initiative that will be at the forefront of public interest law, working to ensure justice for all through meaningful legal action.

“At the heart of the fundamental rights to justice, equality and freedom is access to the justice system”
